The Media Center supports and enhances the curriculum of Mt. Bethel Christian Academy. Lower school students come to the Media Center once a week for a story which presents to students different genres of literature or for instruction on the use of the Media Center and for learning research skills. Middle school students come to the Media Center to select literature for pleasure reading and for research on a variety of subjects or for special projects. Through the library program, students develop an appreciation of literature, a love of reading, and independent research skills.
The card catalog is computerized and is networked throughout the school. The library collection consists of over 14,400 books, magazines and journals, an extensive reference collection and non-print materials.
Mt. Bethel Christian Academy uses the Accelerated Reader Program in the lower grades to supplement reading. Students may use the Media Center’s computers to take quizzes. Currently MBCA has over 6,500 AR quizzes.
The Media Center conducts a yearly Book Fair with the proceeds going to further expand the Media Center to meet the needs of our students and teachers.
Parents have the opportunity to volunteer in the Media Center. Parent volunteers are an essential part of the success of the Book Fair, as well as the smooth day to day operation of the Media Center. Parents assist both our students and our teachers.
Story tellers and authors visit throughout the school year.
One of the goals of the Media Center is to encourage every student to become a life long reader who loves books – all styles and types of books.
