The after school Maker Space club was offered after school for third through fifth grade for several years. Each semester the interest grew to a point where we had a waiting list. Due to the overwhelming interest, we decided to create a class that would incorporate the same concepts as well some other STEM components. As a result, the Think Tank was created.
Think Tank is a class where the students will focus on creativity, critical thinking, communications and collaboration. Through tinkering and experimenting, the students will become problem solvers and inventors. This class will also focus on the higher level technology skills such as coding, robotics, stop motion animation, and more.
When the computer lab was converted to the news studio, basic technology skills were moved into the classroom curriculum. Teachers are covering the basic skills as they assign a project or lesson. This allows the skills to be taught in context rather than isolation so the retention rate will be higher.
