"The commemoration of the last week of Jesus’ life, culminating in the resurrection, is the celebration of the most momentous occasion in human history."

  • Holy Week at MBCA
While we come from many different backgrounds, denominations, and traditions in churches all around the area, we all recognize the life-changing importance of this upcoming week -- Holy Week.  The commemoration of the last week of Jesus’ life, culminating in the resurrection, is the celebration of the most momentous occasion in human history. So it’s something we incorporate into many facets of our education here at Mt. Bethel Christian Academy – and here are a few examples:
    • We have faculty-led Easter services as well as introduce our students to the purpose and practice of a Maundy Thursday service commemorating the Last Supper.  From time to time, we have had a messianic rabbi lead a Passover where the deeper symbolism of the ultimate meaning is explained – how Passover is fulfilled in Christ.
    • Leading up to this week, many of our Bible classes dig into apologetics, exploring the evidence for the resurrection, as well as studying the Book of Romans and John, watching Bible Project videos about the crucifixion and resurrection, and journaling about the experience.  We enjoy inviting apologists and authors to campus to share their depth of knowledge of the historicity of the resurrection.
    • Other students create a “digital storyboard” presenting the story from Passover to Jesus' ascension.
    • Our younger students will see the connection between the fun traditions and the true meaning of Easter with activities like a “Resurrection Egg Hunt” with Easter eggs that contain materials representing the progression of Holy Week, and students work together to assemble the verses in order of events.
    • In world languages, students learn not only how to express Holy Week concepts in other languages but learn about the cultural celebrations surrounding Easter in other parts of the world.

This is just a glimpse of the Biblical integration going on across both campuses. Regardless of how we celebrate Easter, we know that it is, as the Apostle Paul said, “of first importance.” This life-changing truth is the foundation of what it means to be a Christian, that “Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures” (I Corinthians 15:3-4). Challenging our students to think critically about how this impacts their lives encourages them to grow and develop intellectually and spiritually, and we are so grateful we can engage in this way here at MBCA.

Whatever your traditions are this week, we at MBCA wish you and your family a meaningful time of reflection and celebration of the most pivotal week in human history!

    Blessings to you all,
