Latin

Our study of the Latin language begins in third grade. In the Lower School classes, students discover the influence of Latin on the English language and the influence of the Roman Empire on Christianity. Since 90% of all English words over two syllables are derived from Latin, students learn the building blocks of English, its Latin roots, prefixes and suffixes.

Activities include creating artwork, playing charades and other games, making flashcards, and taking quizzes. Students utilize the laptops for interactive games and review activities.

Spanish

Our study of the Spanish language begins in Junior Kindergarten and continues through fifth grade. Students learn the Spanish alphabet pronunciations and numbers, colors, places, and common objects. They will learn how to form sentences using the correct articles, and they will study the cultural traditions of countries who have Spanish as their primary language. Through a variety of activities, games, foods, and field trips, students will be immersed in the culture and the language.
