Mt Bethel falls to Region opponent, Mount Vernon in a high caliber game.
If you are a person who loves high school basketball, then this game was a game for you. Both Mt Bethel and Mount Vernon display several college level players and this game was played at a very high level. The first two quarters were like a boxing match with each team matching tough shot for tough shot. Mt Bethel was lead by Nate Robinson who scored 10 first quarter points and Peter Julius scored 10 points in the first half. The score was tied 21 - 21 at the end of the first quarter, and 34 - 34 at half time. Balanced scoring with Mt Bethel having 3 players in double figures and another with 8. Mount Vernon had 4 players in double figures. Mount Vernon took the lead at the end of the 3rd quarter 55 - 50, but Mt Bethel made a great come back and actually took the lead with less than 2 minutes left. The it was back and forth and it was all tied at 64 - 64 with 37 seconds left. Mount Vernon hit a tough 3 point shot with about 15 seconds left and then Mt Bethel came down and found Roman Avery who took a 3 in the corner, but the referee blew his whistle and said his left heal was out of bounds. Tough call and thus Mt Bethel came up just short in a great high school game. Next up is at Paideia on Tuesday Dec 9th at 7:30 p.m.
