Pathways Learning Center

First & Second Grade

Our youngest students (grades 1-2) will receive explicit phonics and reading instruction in a small group setting.
We offer an Orton-Gillingham approach to phonics acquisition that spans two years in order to properly develop the foundational building blocks of reading fluency. Students with language delays need a specialized approach to decoding and phonics in order to become competent readers and writers. They need assistance in sorting, recognizing, and organizing the raw materials of language for thinking and use. Language elements must be taught explicitly and systematically through the Orton-Gillingham approach and in a small group setting where individual instruction can take place. Our students leave the regular classroom during Language Arts to go to the Pathways classroom. There they receive daily phonics instruction, basic grammar and writing, and reading comprehension classes. The reading comprehension class will build on the fluency skills acquired in the phonics class and introduce reading strategies in order to comprehend at a deeper level what is read. Students in Pathways are also introduced to beginning grammar concepts.

Class size is limited in order to maximize individualized attention.

  • US 101 - Rescheduled Sep 5th

We have an important update regarding our upcoming US 101 – Upper School & Beyond event. Originally planned for this Friday, the day before the long weekend, we’ve received feedback that many of you may be traveling and unable to attend.

In an effort to respect your time and give all of our families the opportunity to participate, we are rescheduling US 101 to take place as part of our Upper School Open House on Friday, September 5. Rather than holding two separate events on different dates, we have decided that integrating Upper School 101 with our Open House will allow us to be mindful of your time while still providing the most comprehensive picture of the Upper School journey. This will allow you to hear directly from our high school students and recent graduates, ask questions, and gain valuable insight into the Upper School experience and beyond.

We will be sending additional details soon regarding the Open House schedule and how US 101 will be included in the itinerary. For now, we encourage you to mark 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 5 on your calendar. If you already plan to attend, you can RSVP at this link, and additional details will follow in another email. We look forward to seeing you there!
