"Beam" Me Up!

It’s called a “topping out ceremony” – the thrilling opportunity to sign the final steel beam before it’s hoisted into place. We’re almost there on our new Student Center! If you haven’t looked in the general direction of our Upper School football field lately, you will want to click on the video link HERE to see some aerial footage of the steel beams making their way into the air! The T. Scott Calvert Student Center is taking shape quickly, and as the building is going up, so is the excitement.

I recently enjoyed teaching a couple of English 9 Honors classes, where the classes studied and wrote various types of poetry. As the students and I went outside on a beautiful fall day to seek inspiration for our Haikus, I joined in the fun and wrote mine about our new building being built:

Steel Dreams
Steel frames touch cool skies,
Amber leaves drift down below,
Dreams rise up in fall.

Yes, you get extra points if you can explain the symbolic juxtaposition reflected in the imagery! In the meantime, check out the information below about how everyone in our community will have the chance to sign the beam before it’s a permanent part of the building. Thanks be to God this Thanksgiving season (Psalm 107:1)!
See you out there…
