A Cliché That Rings True

May 22, 2025

Google “Every ending is a new beginning”, and you’ll find an endless supply of inspirational posters.  I love how iconic Western writer Louis L’Amour puts it: “There will be a time when you believe everything is finished.  That will be the beginning.”

Our Class of 2025 graduates thought they just finished.  But we all know their graduation ceremony is actually called “Commencement.”  In other words – off you go, time to begin!  Our goal is not to produce students who are done.  It’s to send out our graduates to successfully begin a new chapter, one in which they are prepared for college, life, and eternity.  That is our mission personified!

This week we held our “Building Blessing” – celebrating the end of the construction of our Student Center, which of course is the beginning of the impact this incredible facility will have on our students.  As visitors flooded the building, many left behind prayers on post-it notes: prayers for great, new memories to be made, for good sportsmanship, for wisdom, for health & safety – and prayers of thankfulness for God’s faithfulness.  One post-it prayer asked God for blessings on all the “new beginnings” to come!
This week, we also celebrated the conclusion of our bond offering and short-term goal of raising $1.8M in equity to close on the bond.  Our incredible teams -- finance, administration, board members, campus planning, donors, and more completed this complex task which will allow us to start yet another new beginning.  We will be breaking ground this summer on a new Upper School, dining hall, gym, theater, art studio, student commons, and more!  For more exciting details of what’s to come, you can check out this PowerPoint: Phase 2 Building Up.

So, we pray that the wonder of the Mt. Bethel education that focuses on academic excellence, spiritual growth, and lifelong love and desire for learning will be apparent in our students, preparing them for the new beginnings they face, this summer and beyond!
